Councillor Warns of Dangers on Pothole-Ridden Road

A councillor has raised alarms about the hazardous condition of Old Rhuallt Hill, a 60mph road in Denbighshire, which is riddled with potholes and ruts. Chris Evans, the Tremeirchion councillor, highlighted that the road’s deteriorating state poses a significant risk to both cyclists and motorists, citing previous accidents where cyclists were injured after their tyres became trapped in the deep ruts.

Evans expressed frustration over the lack of timely repairs, stating that the council has been alerted multiple times about the urgent need for maintenance. He warned that the current state of the road could lead to serious accidents, especially for unsuspecting drivers who might lose control if they hit the potholes.

Denbighshire County Council has acknowledged the issue and plans to conduct inspections to determine if repairs are necessary. The council’s spokesperson emphasized their commitment to road safety and urged residents to report any highway defects to facilitate maintenance efforts.

The financial implications are also notable, as the council previously spent £46,000 on claims related to pothole damage in 2024, highlighting the ongoing costs associated with neglecting road maintenance. This situation underscores the importance of addressing infrastructure issues before they result in further accidents and financial liabilities.
