The catastrophic floods in Nepal have left communities like Devighat in ruins, with many residents returning to find their homes completely destroyed. The Trishuli River’s swelling waters have not only claimed lives but also rendered the land unsafe for habitation. Survivors are grappling with the loss of everything they owned, facing the harsh reality of rebuilding in a precarious environment.

As the death toll rises, with hundreds still missing, the identification of victims has become a grim task. Authorities are overwhelmed, resorting to using PowerPoint slideshows to help families identify loved ones among the deceased. With morgues overflowing, mass burials are being conducted, highlighting the urgency of the situation.

The emotional toll on survivors is immense. Many, like Usha Nepali, are left with nothing but memories and a few belongings. The fear of returning to a place that has been so devastatingly affected is palpable, as residents question whether it is safe to rebuild their lives in Devighat.

As the river continues to swell, warnings for residents to evacuate are becoming more frequent. The precariousness of living near the Trishuli River is underscored by the ongoing threat of further flooding, leaving many to ponder their future in a place that has taken so much from them.
