Discover Europe’s Best and Worst Value City Breaks for 2026

As flight prices rise, many UK travellers are opting for short-haul city breaks instead of long-haul trips. This shift is highlighted in the latest City Costs Barometer by the UK’s Post Office Travel Money, which reveals the most and least expensive European cities for 2026.

Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, tops the list as the best value city break, costing just £248 for essential tourist items. This affordability is driven by low accommodation and transport costs, allowing visitors to enjoy more experiences without constantly worrying about their budget.

In contrast, Oslo is identified as the most expensive city break at £734. Higher accommodation and dining prices significantly contribute to this steep cost, making it essential for travellers to plan their budgets carefully if they choose to visit.

Understanding these costs can help UK holidaymakers make informed decisions about where to travel. By selecting more affordable destinations, they can enjoy richer experiences without overspending, making city breaks more accessible and enjoyable in 2026.
