Fikadu Yemane, a 29-year-old Eritrean migrant, has been sentenced to eight years in prison after raping and strangling a 19-year-old woman in Crewe. The attack occurred on July 16, 2025, after the two had arranged to meet through social media. The court heard that Yemane took advantage of the victim’s trust, leading to a violent sexual assault that left her with visible injuries.
During the assault, Yemane attempted to silence the victim by covering her mouth and strangling her, nearly causing her to lose consciousness. Fortunately, a second man returned to the property in time to intervene, allowing the victim to escape and alert the authorities. Yemane fled the scene but was arrested six days later in Manchester.
Evidence collected from the scene, including a condom and the victim’s clothing, contradicted Yemane’s claims of consensual activity. Despite the overwhelming forensic evidence, he maintained his innocence throughout the trial, forcing the victim to relive her trauma in court.
Detective Constable Jaymie Johnson described Yemane’s actions as “downright predatory,” highlighting the serious implications of such crimes on victims and the community. Following his release, Yemane will be monitored by specialist officers for life, underscoring the ongoing risks posed by offenders of this nature.
