Escalating Violence in the Occupied West Bank

Recent attacks by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank have raised alarms about the increasing violence and its implications for Palestinian communities. Notably, two mosques were set ablaze in Qusra and Kour, with racist graffiti left behind. This incident is part of a troubling trend, with reports indicating that at least 45 mosques were vandalised in 2025 alone, highlighting a pattern of aggression that has intensified since the onset of the conflict in Gaza in October 2023.

The data reveals a sharp rise in settler violence, with over 3,000 attacks recorded in just 18 months. The Ramallah and el-Bireh governorate has seen the highest number of incidents, indicating that the violence is not only widespread but also increasingly systematic. The Israeli government’s recent approval for land registration in the West Bank further complicates the situation, as it allows for the seizure of Palestinian land, exacerbating tensions and leading to more displacement.

In the first four months of 2026 alone, nearly 2,000 Palestinians were displaced due to settler violence, a staggering increase compared to previous years. This displacement is particularly pronounced in areas under full Israeli control, where Palestinians face significant restrictions on building and movement. The ongoing violence and land seizures threaten the viability of a future Palestinian state and undermine the prospects for peace.

As the situation evolves, the implications for daily life in the West Bank are profound. The constant threat of violence and displacement not only affects the immediate safety of Palestinian residents but also disrupts their access to essential services and economic opportunities. The international community’s response to these developments will be crucial in determining the future stability of the region.
