Europe’s Future: Unity Against Global Powers

Former Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta warns that Europe must accelerate its integration to avoid becoming subservient to the US and China. He argues that without a cohesive European industrial strategy, the continent risks losing its autonomy and competitiveness on the global stage.

Letta’s insights come as the European Commission launches the “One Europe, One Market” strategy, which outlines 42 reforms aimed at completing the single market. This initiative is crucial for enhancing European competitiveness and includes proposals for an energy union and digital service integration.

The urgency of these reforms has been underscored by geopolitical tensions, particularly following controversial actions by the US. Letta cites recent events, including threats from former President Trump, as catalysts for a renewed focus on European unity and strength.

As the EU aims to implement these reforms by the end of the year, the potential for a more integrated and autonomous Europe could reshape its role in global affairs, impacting everything from trade to technological innovation.
