Eurovision Voting Overhaul: What It Means for Fans and Contestants

The Eurovision Song Contest is considering a significant change to its voting system ahead of the 2027 event in Burgas. Organisers aim to move voting entirely online, requiring fans to select their top three acts. This shift is designed to curb the influence of voting campaigns that have raised concerns in recent years, particularly regarding multiple votes for a single contestant.

Currently, fans can vote up to ten times per payment method, but the proposed changes would limit this and potentially reshape how countries strategise their voting. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is responding to past controversies, including allegations of coordinated voting efforts that may have skewed results.

In addition to the voting changes, new rules will ensure that all artists are at least 18 years old, and that lead singers perform live during the contest. These adjustments reflect a broader effort to enhance the integrity of the competition and address geopolitical sensitivities that have affected participation.

As Eurovision evolves, these changes could impact how fans engage with the contest and how countries approach their entries. The move to online voting may also alter the dynamics of fan interaction, making it crucial for artists to connect with audiences in new ways.
