Train services between London Paddington and Reading have resumed following a significant disruption caused by a grass fire near Scrubs Lane. The blaze, which occurred on Saturday afternoon, led to an electricity supply failure that halted all lines between Paddington and Heathrow. Fortunately, the situation has improved, with Great Western Railway (GWR) announcing a return to a ‘good service’ across most of its network by Sunday morning.
However, the Elizabeth Line is operating on an amended timetable due to pre-planned engineering work, which will affect services between Paddington and Ealing Broadway until 7:40 am. Passengers should be aware that early morning trains have been rescheduled, and a reduced local service is in place for routes to Reading and Didcot Parkway.
The London Fire Brigade deployed six fire engines and around 40 crew members to tackle the fire, which resulted in the evacuation of approximately 380 passengers stranded on an Elizabeth Line train. Photos shared on social media depicted large plumes of smoke rising from the area, highlighting the severity of the incident.
As services return to normal, commuters are advised to check their travel plans and remain updated on any further changes. This incident serves as a reminder of the vulnerabilities in transport infrastructure and the potential for unexpected disruptions to daily travel routines.
