Gaza’s Healthcare System Faces Collapse Amid Ongoing Conflict

Gaza’s healthcare system is on the brink of collapse as war and shortages devastate medical facilities. Hospitals are struggling to provide essential care for patients, particularly those requiring dialysis. Reports indicate that 50% of dialysis machines are non-operational due to a critical shortage of sodium bicarbonate, essential for their function.

The situation is dire for patients like 14-year-old Ruwaa, whose life relies on regular dialysis sessions. As the conflict escalates, fewer hospitals are equipped to handle kidney failure patients, resulting in increased mortality rates. With only four hospitals left capable of providing treatment, the pressure on these facilities is immense, risking lives with every missed session.

Beyond dialysis, the war has left thousands in need of rehabilitation due to severe injuries from bombings. Many face a grim reality of waiting for mobility aids that aren’t available, fundamentally altering their quality of life. The lack of prosthetics and other rehabilitation tools limits patients’ recovery and independence, compounding the healthcare crisis.

The broader implications of this medical collapse extend beyond individual suffering. A failing healthcare system in Gaza could lead to increased regional instability as humanitarian needs escalate and international response pressures mount. The urgency for aid and intervention has never been more critical.
