Grooming Gang Survivor Calls for Transparency on Migrant Crime Data

Fiona Goddard, a survivor of grooming gang abuse, has raised alarms over Labour’s decision to withhold migrant crime data. She argues that this lack of transparency mirrors past mistakes that allowed such crimes to proliferate. Goddard, who was abused from the age of 14, believes that releasing data on the nationalities of offenders could help identify patterns crucial for preventing future abuses.

In a letter to Justice Secretary Alex Norris, Goddard and 17 other victims urged the government to publish crime statistics from 2018 to 2024. The Information Commissioner had previously ruled in favour of disclosing this data, but the government has blocked its release, prompting concerns about accountability and victim safety.

Goddard’s own life has been severely impacted by the early release of one of her abusers, forcing her to relocate with her children. She highlights the injustice faced by victims, who often have to adapt their lives around the perpetrators rather than the other way around.

The survivor insists that understanding the demographics of offenders is essential for developing effective prevention strategies. By ignoring these patterns, authorities risk repeating the failures of the past, leaving future generations vulnerable to similar abuses.
