Kainos Expands Workforce with 341 New Jobs in Northern Ireland

Kainos, Northern Ireland’s largest software firm, is set to create 341 new jobs over the next three years, driven by increasing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) solutions. This £19.8 million investment will see 309 positions based in Belfast and 32 in Londonderry, with a significant focus on roles in software engineering, consulting, and data science. Notably, 200 of these positions are aimed at graduates, highlighting a commitment to nurturing local talent.

The announcement comes as Kainos reports an 11% revenue increase in AI and data-related projects, which now account for 20% of its digital services revenue. Chief Executive Brendan Mooney emphasised that AI is viewed as an enabling technology that enhances productivity rather than a threat to jobs. This perspective is crucial as the tech sector grapples with concerns about automation displacing workers.

Economy Minister Caoimhe Archibald described the job creation as a strong endorsement of Northern Ireland’s tech sector and its skilled workforce. The investment reflects a broader trend where companies are not only adopting AI but also investing in their workforce to adapt to new technologies.

With support from Invest NI contributing £1.5 million towards these new roles, this move signals a positive outlook for the region’s economy, suggesting that AI can indeed lead to job creation rather than just displacement. As Kainos expands, it sets a precedent for other firms in the tech industry to follow suit, potentially reshaping the employment landscape in Northern Ireland.
