Katherine Rundell’s Book Gifted to Every Year 6 Student This Christmas

In a significant initiative, every Year 6 student in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and P6 in Scotland will receive a copy of Katherine Rundell’s bestselling book, “Impossible Creatures,” this Christmas. This distribution, part of The Queen’s Christmas Present initiative, aims to promote reading among children at a crucial stage in their education.

With over 800,000 copies being handed out, the initiative coincides with the conclusion of the government’s National Year of Reading. The book, which features a magical world filled with mythical creatures, has been well-received, winning the Waterstones Book of the Year in 2023.

The timing of this initiative is particularly important, as research indicates a sharp decline in children’s enjoyment of reading between the ages of 8 and 14. By providing access to engaging literature, the initiative seeks to combat this trend and encourage a lifelong love of reading.

Rundell herself has highlighted the importance of books as tools for children facing future challenges. The special edition of the book will include a personal note from the Queen, further enhancing its significance as a gift that aims to inspire and uplift young readers.
