Lithuania’s Foreign Affairs Minister Kęstutis Budrys has stated that the country would swiftly adopt a war footing if attacked by Russia. Speaking at a European Ministers meeting in Ireland, he emphasized the urgency of self-defence measures should Lithuania experience significant harm from Russian actions.

Budrys highlighted that the Lithuanian government would not delay in responding to any aggression, asserting that once there is clear attribution of an attack to Russia, they would act immediately. This stance reflects a growing concern among EU nations regarding the deteriorating security situation in Europe, particularly in light of recent hybrid warfare tactics employed by Russia.

The discussions at the meeting also included Germany’s recent decision to hold Russia accountable for a drone attack, underscoring the heightened tensions in the region. EU Foreign Policy chief Kaja Kallas noted that Russia’s ongoing war aims remain unchanged, which adds to the urgency of Lithuania’s preparedness.

This proactive approach by Lithuania signals a broader trend among NATO countries to bolster their defensive strategies in response to perceived threats from Russia, potentially reshaping security dynamics in Eastern Europe.
