Lotus Technology Inc has made a significant move by acquiring 100% of Lotus Advance Technologies Sdn Bhd, also known as Lotus UK. This acquisition marks a pivotal moment for the iconic British car manufacturer, as it aims to unify its operations under a single corporate structure. By consolidating its sports car business, engineering consultancy, and next-generation vehicle technologies, Lotus is positioning itself to enhance competitiveness in the global market.

The integration of these operations is expected to streamline product development and accelerate the launch of new models. CEO Qingfeng Feng emphasized that this unification will not only enhance brand identity but also improve the speed at which Lotus can bring innovations to market. This is particularly crucial as the automotive industry shifts towards electrification and sustainable technologies.

Lotus plans to implement a multi-powertrain strategy, targeting a mix of 60% plug-in hybrids and 40% battery electric vehicles by the end of the decade. The first major product under this strategy will be the V8 hybrid Type 135, set to debut in 2028. This ambitious plan aligns with Lotus’s Focus 2030 strategy, aiming to boost resilience and adaptability in a rapidly changing automotive landscape.

Additionally, the collaboration with Geely Holding Group is expected to enhance Lotus’s engineering and manufacturing capabilities. As Lotus embarks on this new chapter, the implications for job security and local manufacturing at its Hethel headquarters remain to be seen, especially as the company has previously announced job cuts. The future of Lotus will be closely watched as it navigates these changes and strives to reclaim its status as a leader in the sports car market.
