Modi’s Fast-Track Courts: A Response to Youth Protests in India

In response to widespread protests over exam fraud, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the establishment of fast-track courts aimed at swiftly addressing examination paper leaks. This move comes amid escalating demonstrations led by the Cockroach Janta Party, which has mobilised thousands in New Delhi, demanding accountability from the Education Minister and systemic reforms in the examination process.

The protests have highlighted deep-seated frustrations among India’s youth, particularly regarding high unemployment rates and recurring issues with exam integrity. Many demonstrators view the fast-track court proposal as a superficial solution that fails to tackle the root causes of the problem, including perceived incompetence within the education system.

Critics argue that while the fast-track courts may expedite legal proceedings, they do not address the systemic failures that allow such fraud to occur. The movement has gained traction, with calls for the resignation of the Education Minister and financial support for families affected by recent exam cancellations.

As protests continue to grow, the government’s response will be closely scrutinised. The situation reflects a broader discontent among young people in India, signalling potential long-term implications for Modi’s administration and its handling of youth-related issues.
