Overnight Parking Ban in Eryri National Park Paused Amid Rising Issues

The Eryri National Park Authority has temporarily lifted its ban on overnight parking in nine car parks, just two months after its implementation. This decision comes in response to increased complaints from locals and visitors about anti-social behaviour, including littering and public urination, which reportedly worsened during the ban.

Residents expressed concerns that the ban pushed camper van users into residential areas, leading to more disruptive behaviour. Guesthouse owner Richard Edwards highlighted that the absence of designated overnight parking resulted in camper vans parking on streets, blocking access and creating sanitation issues.

The park, which attracts nearly four million visitors annually, is now considering a pilot scheme to restrict overnight parking at specific sites while further consultations are planned. The authority aims to balance visitor access with community concerns, acknowledging that a quick solution is unlikely.

As discussions continue, the park’s management is under pressure to find a sustainable approach that accommodates both tourists and local residents. The outcome of these consultations could significantly impact how visitors experience the park and how local communities manage the influx of tourists.
