Pentagon Raises Alert on Israeli Espionage Amid Ongoing Conflict

The Pentagon has escalated its threat assessment regarding Israeli espionage activities from ‘high’ to ‘critical’. This shift reflects growing concerns over Israel’s aggressive surveillance tactics, particularly as tensions rise in the ongoing US-Israeli war with Iran. Reports suggest that Israel is increasingly focused on monitoring US officials to gauge internal discussions about the conflict’s future.

This heightened alert comes at a time when US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu have publicly disagreed on how to proceed with the war. While Trump advocates for a ceasefire, Netanyahu pushes for continued military action. The implications of this espionage could strain US-Israeli relations, which have historically been characterized by close military cooperation and intelligence sharing.

The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) has noted a significant uptick in Israeli spying activities since late 2024, coinciding with increased US pressure on Israel regarding its actions in Gaza. This has raised alarms about the extent to which Israel may be attempting to influence US policy decisions, particularly those related to Iran.

As Congress debates new defense legislation that would deepen military collaboration between the two nations, the reported espionage activities could complicate these discussions. The situation underscores a critical juncture in US-Israeli relations, with potential long-term consequences for both nations’ security strategies and diplomatic ties.
