Two police officers were injured in a car ramming incident in Londonderry following a pursuit of a suspect. The chase began after officers noticed a vehicle being driven without valid insurance and suspected it was operated by a disqualified driver. When police attempted to stop the vehicle, it sped off, prompting a pursuit that was later called off due to safety concerns.
The vehicle was later located in a dead-end estate where it repeatedly rammed a police vehicle, causing significant damage and injuring the officers inside. This reckless behaviour not only endangered the lives of the officers but also posed a serious risk to other road users in the area.
The suspect, a 23-year-old man, was arrested on multiple charges, including attempted grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving, and possession of a class A drug. The incident underscores the ongoing challenges police face in managing dangerous driving and the need for stringent measures to protect public safety.
In response, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) reiterated its commitment to removing dangerous drivers from the roads, highlighting the importance of community safety and law enforcement’s role in maintaining order.
