Hundreds of pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered in London to protest against an event promoting the sale of land in illegal Israeli settlements. The rally, held outside the ‘Great Israeli Real Estate Event’, highlighted widespread opposition to what many see as a violation of international law.
Activists, including members of the Palestinian Youth Movement, voiced their concerns that such sales represent a continuation of colonial practices. They argue that these actions undermine the rights of Palestinians and violate international legal standards, which deem Israeli settlements in occupied territories illegal.
The event drew counter-protesters supporting the sale, leading to a tense atmosphere and multiple arrests by the Metropolitan Police. Prominent UK politicians, including nearly 100 MPs, have condemned the event, urging the government to take action against these illegal activities occurring on British soil.
The UK government has acknowledged the illegality of Israeli settlements but has yet to provide a definitive response to the protests. Activists are calling for stronger measures to prevent similar events in the future, emphasizing the need for the UK to uphold its international obligations regarding human rights and territorial integrity.
