Racially Motivated Attack Leaves Family in Fear

A Syrian family in Holywood, County Down, has been left devastated after a racially motivated attack on their home. Torki Alomare reported that two of his children were injured when assailants hurled stones at their property, causing significant damage and distress. The incident, which occurred on a Sunday night, also involved vandalism at his parents’ home nearby, highlighting a troubling trend of hate crimes in the area.

Alomare, who moved to the UK under the Syrian Resettlement scheme nine years ago, expressed that the attack has shattered his family’s sense of safety and stability. He stated, “They destroyed my life and I can’t go to my work now,” indicating the profound impact this violence has had on their daily routines and livelihoods. The fear has forced the family to leave their home, as they no longer feel secure.

Local politicians have condemned the attacks, with calls for community support and action against racism. Alliance MLA Andrew Muir emphasized that such acts are unacceptable and do not reflect the welcoming nature of Northern Ireland. The police are actively investigating the incidents and have urged anyone with information to come forward.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by minority communities and the urgent need for societal change to combat racism. As the community rallies against such hate, the hope is for a more inclusive environment where all families can feel safe in their homes.
