The UK has experienced an unprecedented heatwave, with temperatures soaring to 36.9C, marking the hottest June day for the third consecutive day. This extreme weather has led to significant disruptions across various sectors, including transport and healthcare, as emergency services face overwhelming demand from heat-related illnesses.

NHS trusts have declared critical incidents, struggling to manage the influx of patients suffering from heat exhaustion and other related conditions. The high temperatures have also strained hospital infrastructure, with reports of wards exceeding 30C, complicating patient care and treatment.

Transport services are feeling the heat too, with National Rail advising against unnecessary travel as rail infrastructure buckles under the strain. Tube and rail services in London are disrupted, and the AA has reported a surge in breakdowns, highlighting the impact of extreme heat on vehicles.

As temperatures are expected to drop over the weekend, thunderstorms are forecasted, which could bring further disruption. This heatwave serves as a stark reminder of the increasing frequency of extreme weather events, raising concerns about the long-term implications for public health and infrastructure resilience in the UK.
