Restaurant Shut Down Again Over Hygiene Violations

A restaurant in Birchgrove has been closed for the second time due to serious food hygiene violations, including a cockroach infestation and lack of hot water. Initially operating as Delhi Cuisine, the establishment voluntarily shut down after health inspectors discovered the infestation, which posed significant risks to public health.

After reopening under a new name, Grand Sylhet, the restaurant faced immediate scrutiny again when officers found it was trading without hot water. This is critical as hot water is essential for maintaining hygiene standards, particularly in food preparation and cleaning processes.

The owner, Motiur Rahman, has been fined over £3,500 for these breaches. The Shared Regulatory Services emphasized the importance of compliance with food hygiene legislation, highlighting that businesses must ensure safe food handling practices to protect public health.

This situation raises concerns about the effectiveness of health inspections and the ongoing risks posed by establishments that fail to meet basic hygiene standards. The repeated closures signal a need for stricter enforcement and accountability in the food service industry to safeguard consumers.
