The Return of the Infamous Bus 666 to Hel

FlixBus is reviving the notorious bus route 666, linking Kraków to the seaside town of Hel, which has long been a popular destination for Polish holidaymakers. This route, which runs through Warsaw and several coastal resorts, is not just a new travel option but also a nod to its cheeky nickname, ‘the bus to hell’. The number 666 has sparked interest due to its biblical connotations, making it a memorable choice for tourists.

The original service was discontinued in 2023 after protests from religious groups, leading to a change in the route number. However, FlixBus’s decision to reinstate the 666 number is a strategic move to attract attention and highlight the destination’s appeal. The company aims to cater to the growing demand for direct connections to the Hel Peninsula, especially during the busy summer season.

Passengers can expect a long journey of around thirteen hours, with the bus departing Kraków early in the morning and arriving in Hel by evening. The carefully planned schedule is designed to avoid peak traffic times, ensuring a smoother travel experience for holidaymakers heading to the popular Baltic coast.

While the name may evoke a sense of humour, the route’s revival reflects a broader trend in travel where quirky branding can enhance the appeal of destinations. As FlixBus prepares for the summer season, this route could become a talking point among travellers, blending fun with practicality in their holiday plans.
