A new invention from UK scientists, the ‘Bioloon’, aims to tackle the environmental crisis posed by traditional balloons. The development of the Bioloon is the result of extensive research by Juliana Cumming, a PhD student at Imperial College London. After numerous trials, the team created a balloon that inflates like a conventional one but breaks down completely in various environments, including soil and seawater. This innovation not only addresses balloon waste but also highlights the potential for broader applications in everyday products, such as medical gloves and latex clothing.

With billions of balloons sold annually, many consumers remain unaware of their environmental impact.
