King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to attend a significant event at the Scottish Parliament later this month. This occasion marks the formal opening of the parliament term following the recent Holyrood elections. The King’s address will not only set the tone for the new term but also highlight the royal family’s ongoing support for Scottish governance.

Scheduled for June 27, the event will feature performances from the National Theatre of Scotland and the National Youth Choir of Scotland. A specially-commissioned poem by Scotland’s national poet, Padraig MacAoidh, will be presented in both Gaelic and English, showcasing Scotland’s rich cultural heritage.

This gathering is seen as a moment of optimism and renewal for the parliament, as expressed by Presiding Officer Kenneth Gibson. He emphasized the importance of the royal couple’s presence in celebrating Scotland’s traditions while focusing on future aspirations.

The event will also include a meet-and-greet with local heroes chosen by Members of the Scottish Parliament, further connecting the monarchy with the communities across Scotland. This engagement underscores the royal family’s commitment to Scottish identity and governance, reinforcing their role in contemporary Scottish society.
