From School to Memorial: The Impact of War on Minab’s Children

The Shajareh Tayyebeh school in Minab, Iran, has transformed from a place of learning into a poignant memorial following the tragic attacks on February 28. This site now serves as a reminder of the over 100 students who lost their lives in the early strikes of the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel.

Visitors to the memorial are greeted by a bright blue gate, once adorned with symbols of education, now leading them through a somber display of photographs. These images capture the joy of childhood, juxtaposed with the sorrow of loss, as families mourn their loved ones. The school, now in ruins, stands as a testament to the devastating impact of war on innocent lives.

Local officials have proposed preserving the school’s remains as a historical record, with plans to convert it into a war museum. This initiative aims to educate future generations about the consequences of conflict and the importance of peace.

As the conflict continues, the community remains vigilant, with ongoing concerns about safety and the recovery of those still missing. The memorial not only honours the victims but also serves as a stark warning of the vulnerabilities faced by civilians in times of war.
