A search operation is currently in progress after a fishing boat sank in Carlingford Lough, near Greencastle Point, County Down. The Irish Coast Guard received an emergency call at 12:30 BST, prompting immediate action to locate the two individuals on board.
One person has been successfully rescued by a local boat and is now receiving medical attention at Greenore harbour. However, efforts continue to locate the second individual, with multiple rescue teams deployed to assist in the operation.
The Marine Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Belfast is overseeing the response, which includes the Irish Coast Guard’s helicopter Rescue 116 and a lifeboat from Kilkeel. Additionally, Coastguard units from Newcastle and Kilkeel are on the scene, supported by a Royal Navy helicopter.
