A major search operation is currently underway for a 13-year-old boy who went missing while swimming off Hornsea, East Yorkshire. Emergency services received the call at around 18:00 BST and have since mobilised multiple agencies, including HM Coastguard, Humberside Police, and local rescue teams. The RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat from Bridlington has also joined the extensive search effort.
Ch Supt Phil Booker has emphasised that the priority remains to locate the missing boy, urging the public to avoid the area to facilitate the search. Police Search Advisors, along with marine units and drone pilots, have been deployed to maximise the chances of finding him.
The search area includes the South Promenade, where a helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft are actively scanning the water and shoreline. Witnesses describe a subdued atmosphere as emergency services conduct their operations while onlookers gather along the beach, hoping for positive news.
