Spanish PM Denies Morocco Orchestrated Migrant Crisis in Ceuta

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has stated that there is no solid evidence to support claims that Morocco orchestrated the migrant rush into Ceuta in July. This follows a police report suggesting that the influx was not spontaneous but rather a planned operation aimed at overwhelming border controls.

Sanchez emphasized that no international bodies or diplomatic services have provided proof of Moroccan involvement. However, he noted that Moroccan security forces allowed crossings during a critical 10-hour period when arrivals peaked, raising questions about their response.

The police report indicated that Moroccan forces were deployed in smaller numbers than usual and did not actively disperse crowds. Some officers reportedly directed migrants towards the crossing point, but the report lacked specific evidence of orders from higher authorities.

In light of the ongoing crisis, Sanchez has called for King Felipe VI to visit Ceuta and Melilla, highlighting the need for increased support for these territories. This visit would mark the first by a Spanish monarch in over 20 years, reflecting the delicate diplomatic relations between Spain and Morocco.
