Switching Energy Deals Could Save Households £173 Annually

As energy prices are set to rise again in October, households in Great Britain are facing increased financial pressure. However, switching to a fixed energy tariff could save them up to £173 a year. This option allows consumers to lock in lower rates, providing stability amid fluctuating wholesale prices.

Currently, the energy price cap will increase by 4%, pushing the average annual bill to £1,723. For those on default tariffs, this change comes at a time when many will be turning on their heating again. In contrast, households that switch to fixed tariffs can avoid these hikes and enjoy predictable costs during the colder months.

Around 11 million homes are already on fixed tariffs, shielding them from the impending price increases. Price comparison websites indicate that many fixed deals are available that undercut the new cap, offering savings and peace of mind. With predictions of further increases in January, now is a critical time for consumers to reassess their energy contracts.

Additionally, a temporary VAT cut on domestic electricity will further ease the burden, saving households an estimated £45 annually. As energy costs continue to rise, exploring fixed tariffs and reducing energy consumption are essential strategies for managing household finances effectively.
