Al-Qaqa Ibn Antar, known as the ‘Spider-Man of Yemen’, tragically died after falling into a volcanic crater during a climb. The 30-year-old adventurer was attempting to scale the steep walls of the Hardah Dam crater in Dhale province without any safety equipment when he lost his grip and fell approximately 30 metres into the crater’s lake.

Rescue teams, including divers, were dispatched to recover his body, which was located after a complex four-hour operation. This incident has raised serious concerns about the risks associated with extreme climbing and the lack of safety measures often overlooked by thrill-seekers.

Antar had gained a significant following on social media for his daring climbs, often showcasing his skills without protective gear. His videos not only entertained but also inspired many to pursue similar adventures, potentially leading to dangerous imitations.

In the wake of this tragedy, Yemen’s Civil Defense Authority has issued a warning to climbers, urging them to adhere to safety protocols and use appropriate equipment. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent dangers in extreme sports and the need for responsible climbing practices.
