The UK is advancing its military capabilities with the testing of new long-range strike weapons, designed to support Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia. These weapons can hit targets over 500km away and are expected to be ready for deployment within a year. This initiative, part of ‘Project Brakestop’, aims to enhance the UK’s sovereign defence capabilities while reducing reliance on foreign military supplies.

The Ministry of Defence has set ambitious production goals, including a cost-effective unit price of around £400,000 and the ability to manufacture at least 20 weapons monthly. This rapid development reflects a significant shift in the UK’s approach to military manufacturing, prioritising speed and efficiency in response to the evolving battlefield needs of Ukraine.

The new systems are being developed by three UK firms, showcasing the country’s industrial strength and innovation in defence technology. This move not only aims to bolster Ukraine’s military effectiveness but also signals a commitment to enhancing the UK’s own defence resilience.

As the situation in Ukraine continues to evolve, the introduction of these weapons could have far-reaching implications for the conflict, potentially altering the dynamics of military engagements and the UK’s role in international defence support.
