Ukrainian drones have intensified their long-range strike campaign, targeting key facilities deep within Russia, including an oil refinery and a logistics centre for Wildberries, the country’s largest online retailer. This escalation aims to pressure Moscow into peace negotiations, marking a significant shift in Ukraine’s military strategy.
The attacks on July 29 are part of a broader pattern, with Wildberries facilities being hit multiple times in recent weeks. This disruption could severely impact the retailer’s logistics network, which processes around 20 million orders daily. As a response, Wildberries is reportedly seeking warehouse space in Kazakhstan to mitigate the damage.
The Ryazan oil refinery, a crucial asset for Russia’s energy sector, was also struck, leading to a fire and further operational challenges for Moscow. This facility accounts for nearly 5% of Russia’s total oil refining capacity, highlighting the strategic importance of these drone strikes.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the need for Russia to feel the escalating costs of the war, suggesting that these strikes are not just tactical but also psychological, aiming to weaken the aggressor’s resolve and hasten an end to the conflict.
