The US is developing a post-war strategy for the Middle East, focusing on reshaping regional power dynamics. This plan aims to tighten pressure on Iran while promoting normalisation between Israel and its neighbours, particularly Saudi Arabia.
Three key pillars are being discussed: creating a regional alignment among US allies to deter Iran, addressing the fallout from the recent attacks on Israel, and expanding the Abraham Accords. These efforts are seen as crucial for stabilising the region and reducing Iranian influence.
The strategy also includes potential security agreements between Israel and Syria, and measures to limit Hezbollah’s military capabilities in Lebanon. However, the plan is still in its early stages, with no final agreement in place.
As the US navigates its upcoming midterm elections, the success of this strategy will depend on the cooperation of regional allies and the evolving geopolitical landscape, particularly in light of the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
