Uzbekistan has significantly expanded a performance evaluation programme for its public institutions, now assessing 41 ministries and agencies, more than double the previous cycle. This initiative, backed by the UAE, aims to enhance transparency and efficiency in government operations, focusing on measurable outcomes rather than just administrative processes.
The programme, which has been in place since 2019, evaluates institutions based on criteria such as digitalisation and service delivery. This shift towards performance metrics is designed to improve public trust by ensuring that government bodies effectively address citizens’ needs.
One notable outcome from this year’s assessments is the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which has increased its online services from 20 to 55, allowing citizens quicker access to essential services. This reflects a broader trend in public administration towards reducing bureaucracy and enhancing service delivery.
As Uzbekistan continues to refine this evaluation process, future assessments will place even greater emphasis on tangible results at local levels, potentially reshaping how public services are delivered and perceived by citizens. This could serve as a model for other nations looking to improve their public administration systems.
