Warnings Issued for Popular TikTok Reservoir Amid Safety Concerns

The owners of Brombil Reservoir in Wales, which gained fame as a ‘blue lagoon’ on TikTok, are urging visitors to stay away due to safety risks. Following a surge in traffic and littering since its viral rise during the pandemic, the site has become a concern for local residents and the new owners, who have implemented a £2 access fee to manage visitor numbers and fund clean-up efforts.

The reservoir, a vital flood defense and ecological habitat, has faced severe environmental degradation from littering and vandalism. The owners have expressed the need for public sector support to maintain the site, warning that without it, they may have to decommission the reservoir, jeopardizing both local safety and biodiversity.

Despite the picturesque views attracting thousands, the steep access path and the potential for accidents have led to increased scrutiny. The owners have installed barriers to prevent access to dangerous areas, but these have been repeatedly removed by trespassers, highlighting ongoing challenges in managing the site.

Local authorities have stated that as the reservoir is privately owned, operational decisions rest with the owners. They remain open to discussions about responsible visitor management to alleviate pressure on the surrounding community, but the future of the reservoir hangs in the balance without collaborative efforts.
