Weekend Rail Disruptions: What You Need to Know

Train users in Berkshire and Wiltshire should prepare for significant disruptions on weekends in June due to essential track maintenance. Buses will replace trains between Reading and Newbury or Bedwyn on the weekends of 6/7 and 13/14 June, affecting many commuters and leisure travellers.

Network Rail has announced that the work involves replacing tracks between Theale and Bedwyn, as well as carrying out flood alleviation measures. This maintenance is crucial for ensuring the reliability of train services in the long term, but it will temporarily inconvenience many.

Great Western Railway (GWR) has confirmed that replacement bus services will also operate between Newbury, Kintbury, Hungerford, and between Pewsey and Swindon. Passengers are advised to plan their journeys in advance to avoid delays.

While the work is necessary for future service reliability, the immediate impact on weekend travel could lead to longer journey times and increased costs for those relying on bus replacements. This situation highlights the ongoing challenges of maintaining transport infrastructure while minimising disruption to users.
