While Ukraine is developing a European alternative missile defence system called Freyja, the immediate reliance on U.S. Patriot systems underscores a critical gap in Ukraine’s defence capabilities. The Freyja project, which will take a year to develop, aims to enhance European missile defence, but for now, the urgency of the winter months looms large.
In parallel, the UK has committed to participating in a significant EU support loan for Ukraine, which will allow British firms to supply more weapons.
