New Defence Pact Challenges Israel’s Regional Influence

A newly signed defence pact between Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Pakistan is raising eyebrows in Israel, particularly as elections approach. This agreement, which stipulates that an attack on one member is an attack on all, signals a shift in regional alliances that could complicate Israel’s military strategies and diplomatic efforts.

The pact is perceived as a direct challenge to Israel’s ambitions in the region, especially with Turkiye, which has increasingly positioned itself as a rival. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is now faced with the task of reassessing its security posture and foreign policy in light of this emerging alliance.

As Netanyahu prepares for elections, he may leverage this new threat to bolster his security credentials, framing Turkiye as a significant adversary. This could influence public perception and voting behaviour, as security remains a top concern for Israeli citizens.

The implications of this pact extend beyond immediate military concerns; it reflects a broader distrust in US commitments to Middle Eastern allies. As regional dynamics shift, Israel’s ability to navigate these changes will be crucial for its long-term security and diplomatic relations.
