Piddington Residents Alarmed by Asylum Seeker Plans

Residents of Piddington are expressing outrage over recently uncovered Home Office documents indicating plans to house over 3,000 asylum seekers in their small village. Initially informed that the site would accommodate 1,256 individuals, locals are now concerned that the actual capacity could be much higher, leading to fears of significant changes in their community dynamics.

The documents suggest a potential capacity of 3,510 at the MOD Bicester site, raising alarm bells among residents who worry that the site could be prioritized for future asylum seekers should there be a surge in crossings. This uncertainty has led to heightened tensions, with villagers questioning the transparency and implications of such a facility in their rural environment.

Local resident Ian Darby highlighted that the village, which currently has a population of around 350, lacks basic amenities to support a sudden influx of people. He emphasized that the proposed plan could irreversibly alter the character of their community, transforming it into a significantly larger settlement without adequate infrastructure.

As consultations continue, residents are preparing to voice their concerns and explore legal options. The Home Office has insisted that the figures cited in the documents are outdated, but the lingering fears of overcapacity remain a pressing issue for the village’s future.
