A new initiative in Suffolk is helping farmers take essential breaks from their demanding schedules. Lily Kentfield and Brandon Peet have launched LB Farm Relief, allowing farmers to hand over livestock duties temporarily, alleviating stress and promoting mental well-being. This service addresses a significant issue in agriculture, where many farmers feel they cannot step away due to the pressures of running a farm alone.
Kentfield, who has been involved in farming since her teens, recognised the mental health challenges faced by farmers, with a survey indicating that 91% of farmers see poor mental health as a major concern. The couple aims to provide peace of mind, ensuring that farmers can focus on personal matters without worrying about their livestock.
The initiative has garnered positive feedback from local farmers, who often struggle to take time off due to the solitary nature of their work. With many farms now operated by a single person, the ability to take a break is crucial for mental health and overall productivity.
As the demand for such services grows, Kentfield and Peet hope to inspire more young people to support the farming community, highlighting the importance of mental health and the need for a sustainable work-life balance in agriculture.
