For instance, during extreme heat events, France has had to reduce nuclear output by up to nine gigawatts, which is a significant portion of its summer capacity.
Moreover, the environmental regulations that protect local aquatic life complicate matters. Nuclear plants must manage waste heat discharge carefully, and when water levels are low, they may need to throttle back operations to prevent ecological damage.
