Drivers in Grimsby and Cleethorpes may soon face new parking restrictions as North East Lincolnshire Council proposes double yellow lines in over a dozen locations. This initiative aims to facilitate waste collection, particularly as councils across England prepare for a new mandate to collect food waste weekly starting in spring 2027.
The council has identified areas where parked vehicles obstruct bin lorries and other large vehicles, causing delays and missed collections. The proposed restrictions are designed not only to improve waste collection efficiency but also to enhance road safety by keeping junctions clear of obstructions that hinder visibility for all road users.
If implemented, the restrictions will prohibit parking at all times on certain roads, which the council argues will have a limited overall impact on parking availability. Many vehicles currently parked in these areas are in unsafe locations, and there are unrestricted parking options nearby that could accommodate them.
Before finalising the plans, the council will conduct a public consultation, allowing residents and businesses to voice their opinions and concerns. This step is crucial as it ensures community involvement in decisions that directly affect daily routines and local traffic dynamics.
