A couple’s terrifying experience at a Dundee Travelodge has raised serious concerns about hotel security protocols. After being handed a key card by mistake, they woke up to find a shirtless intruder in their room. This incident underscores vulnerabilities in hotel check-in procedures, which could have dire consequences for guest safety.

The couple, Kim Hutchison and Harry Grieve, described their fear upon discovering the stranger at the foot of their bed. The intruder, who claimed to have the correct room key, left after a brief confrontation. This alarming breach not only disrupted their stay but also highlighted a potential risk for all hotel guests, especially those travelling alone.

Travelodge has since acknowledged the failure in their security measures and retrained staff at the Dundee location. However, the couple’s experience raises questions about the adequacy of training across the hotel chain and the industry as a whole. With previous incidents of serious assaults linked to similar security lapses, the need for stringent protocols is more pressing than ever.

As hotels adapt to increasing guest expectations for safety, this incident serves as a wake-up call. It emphasizes the importance of robust security measures to prevent unauthorized access, ensuring that all guests can feel secure during their stay.
