Construction Workers March to Combat Violence Against Women

In a powerful demonstration, around a hundred construction workers marched through central London, demanding that men take a stand against violence towards women and girls. This event, dubbed the Hard Hats & Open Minds Walk for Change, highlighted the urgent need for men to challenge each other and foster a culture of respect and accountability within male-dominated industries.

The march, which covered 10km and included stops at various construction sites, aimed to raise awareness of the epidemic of violence against women. Participants, including families of victims, emphasized the importance of men speaking out against misogyny and domestic abuse, particularly in workplaces where such attitudes can be pervasive.

Michael Alan Hook, a veteran in the construction field, expressed the need for alternative role models for young men, steering them away from harmful influences like manosphere figures. The event served as a call to action for men to not only reflect on their own behaviours but also to support their peers in recognizing and addressing abusive patterns.

As the march concluded at Downing Street, the message was clear: men must be part of the solution to end violence against women. By fostering open dialogue and challenging toxic masculinity, the construction industry can play a pivotal role in changing societal attitudes and preventing future tragedies.
