A kitten born with two noses and two mouths has left a cat rescue in Wales astonished. The rare condition, known as diprosopus or craniofacial duplication, is extremely uncommon, with most affected kittens not surviving long after birth. Named Gemini, this little miracle is being closely monitored by the PurrfectlyFeral rescue team in Llangedwyn, Powys.
Gemini’s mother, a stray cat, gave birth to eight kittens shortly after arriving at the rescue. Unfortunately, Gemini was rejected by her mother and now requires bottle feeding every hour. Rescue founder Shelley Jones expressed her shock at the kitten’s condition, having never encountered a Janus cat before.
Despite the challenges, Gemini shows a strong will to feed from both mouths, creating a unique and amusing feeding routine for the rescue team. Jones highlighted the importance of public support, stating that without donations, caring for such rare cases would be impossible.
The rescue team feels privileged to care for Gemini, ensuring she receives love and warmth during her time with them, however long that may be. This extraordinary case not only showcases the wonders of nature but also raises awareness about the challenges faced by animals with congenital disorders.
