Wizz Air Advises Early Arrivals Amid EES Delays

British travellers returning from Europe this summer are facing significant delays at airports due to new post-Brexit border checks. Wizz Air has advised passengers to arrive three hours before their flights, as lengthy passport control queues linked to the EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES) are causing disruptions. Some travellers have already missed their flights due to these delays, prompting concerns about potential chaos during the busy summer season.

The EES requires non-EU visitors, including UK citizens, to provide biometric data when entering and leaving the Schengen Area. Although the European Commission claims the system is functioning well, many airports are struggling with the increased processing times. Reports indicate that queues can extend up to three and a half hours, particularly at popular tourist destinations.

As the summer peak approaches, the situation is expected to worsen, with some airports partially suspending EES checks during busy periods. Wizz Air’s UK managing director has suggested that passengers should prepare for long waits and consider bringing essentials like portable chargers and water. This advice reflects a broader trend of late bookings among travellers, who are increasingly cautious due to rising costs and uncertainties in the travel market.

With one in five Britons unable to afford a holiday this year, the impact of EES delays could further complicate travel plans. As the situation evolves, passengers are urged to stay informed and plan accordingly to avoid unnecessary stress during their journeys.
